Collaborating with Uni-Amazonia

Symposium on biodiversity in times of peace at the headwaters of the Amazon Basin!

We had the opportunity to visit Universidad del Amazonia, in Florencia, Colombia, to give a talk about our experiences with urban streams in Puerto Rico.

The talk was part of the Sixth SIMABID, this year celebrating the signing of peace agreements in the region.

Our presentation on urban streams and climate change conveyed the message that urban streams are functional ecosystems and that their restoration is possible by removal of major threats

We also organized a Workshop on stream macroinvertebrates to introduce students to the world of stream biomonitoring using macroinvertebrates.

The workshop was attended by 20 students from UniAmazonia and we spent the day identifying macroinvertebrates and learning about stream ecology and management.
